Earlier this year, Chris and I visited Ann Arbor and we stopped by a Korean diner in Kerrytown for lunch. Chris ordered a bacon wrapped hot dog deep fried with kimchi on it. It was pretty interesting! It inspired me to make my own at-home version so here it is —slightly healthier. I don’t normally eat hot dogs but when you get the organic kind with no nitrates or additives you feel better about eating it.
Ingredients:
- 4 bacon slices (I used apple smoked bacon)
- 4 organic beef hot dogs (better and healthier for you –no nitrates, no additives)
- 4 hot dog buns
- 4 tablespoons of kimchi relish
Preparation:
Take one bacon slice and wrap it around one hot dog so it’s mostly/completely covered with bacon. In a large sauté pan over medium high heat, cook your bacon wrapped hot dog until it’s brown and crispy. Put the hot dog in a bun and top it with 1 tablespoon of kimchi relish.
This needs to fall into a new category: “Epic” 🙂
You’re too kind! 😀
Wow … elevates hot dogs to a new level. Looks great!
Thanks! 🙂
Totally agree about the organic element. I used to make sausage meat, so I know what goes into them. Have only ever had a hotdog outside the Met, NYC. Had to try them at least once! Wasn’t impressed.
Yeah… hot dogs are more kid friendly. I wouldn’t eat it alone. It needs to be jazzed up.
You had me at ‘bacon’, then again at ‘kimchi’!
😀 I wonder if E will let will even make this for you guys?
Congrats on the HuffPost Taste press on this, Anne! You go, fellow food sister! =)
Awww….. thanks Christina! 🙂
My husband loves kimchi! Interesting take on the Korean chow-chow.
Thank you! 🙂
This, I definitely am going to give this a try…next hot dog craving I have. Thanks for the idea. -Nikki
You’re welcome. Let me know how you like it.
I have never eaten kimchi – but I will now. Have to try this!
Hi Larry! Kimchi is a must try –it will change your life. And it’s epic with this hot dog dish. 🙂
This. looks. amazing. I have always loved kimchi, and I also happen to love bacon and (secretly) hot dogs. Definitely giving this a try! I saw your kimchi relish recipe – do you also make your own kimchi?
Thanks! I love kimchi too. No, I used store bought kimchi without MSG. -Anne
Yum! Reminds me of the Tijuana Dog out here on the West Coast. Congrats on HuffPost! Very cool :).
Thanks! 🙂
What a unique combination, Anne! I love the cross-cultural hotdog.
Thanks Joanie! And thanks for popping over!
I love trying to re-create food I’ve eaten while out & about! Nice job!
Thank you so much! 🙂
