I first had this salad when Chris and I visited this local Italian eatery near our home. We shared a burrata salad (I didn’t know what burrata was at the time) and it was simple and so delicious. It was a mixture of iceberg lettuce, baby arugula, tomatoes and chunks of burrata. Extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar drizzled on top to finish it off. This salad made an impression on me that I’ve been wanting to make it at home (I think it was really the burrata). I didn’t care for the iceberg lettuce so I left it out. If you can’t find burrata, buffalo mozzarella is a good substitution. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- a couple of handfuls of baby arugula
- 1 tomato, cut into chunks
- 1 ball of burrata, cut into quarters
- good quality extra virgin olive oil for drizzling
- balsamic vinegar for drizzling
- fleur de sel
Preparation:
Layer the arugula on a serving plate. Then add tomatoes and burrata. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar on top. Season with fleur de sel.
I’m a big fan of salad. Loved this one. I think the sturdiness of the arugula was a nice texture contrast with the burrata. That’s a fun word to say. 🙂
Haha! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
I LOVE burrata, but I’ve never bought it to use at home (even though see it every time I’m at Trader Joe’s). This makes me want to finally buy some! One of my favorite restaurants serves it warm with slices of bread. Another super simple dish, but amazing!
Thank you! I LOVE burrata too –it’s absolutely delicious!
Burrata is a new one for me. I’ve never seen it for sale over here, and I’m always curious about new products. Do love salads like this!
Burrata is fabulous! It’s fresh mozzarella with a creamy center. If you like fresh mozzarella, you’ll really like burrata.
Great combination mozzarella burrata with rucola!!!Anne, you are really professional!!!
You’re too kind Massi! 🙂
Wonderful, Anne! I’d hoped you’d post the salad you’d mentioned on my burrata post. This does sound good and I can see why you wanted to recreate it at home. But iceberg lettuce? Really? Your use of baby arugula is such a better idea.
Oh wow, you remembered! 🙂 Thanks John! I am loving burrata and am so glad my market carries it.
I don’t like ice berg lettuce either! It is kind of nothing, arugula sounds much nicer. I only learned of burrata last week and I really want to try it – this looks like a really nice salad!
Thank you so much! Burrata is fairly new for me too. I’ve only learned of it last year. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
I love Burrata salad!
I do too!
I’ve never heard of burrata either but this salad looks and sounds wonderful. Sometimes the simple things are the best.
I totally agree!
yum…your salad looks simple and delish…i love anthing with arugula…lovely post..sarah
Thanks Sarah!
This is one of my absolutely favourite salads. Sadly the tomatoes are not good this time of year, so I would oven dry them first to give them better flavour. Burrata is really a wonderful cheese.
It would be wonderful when tomatoes are in season. If you can get heirloom, it’s even better! Yes, burrata is just fabulous!
I am not familiar with burrata but will definitely have to look out for it. Thanks for sharing something new! The salad sounds fantastic and arugula makes such a pretty salad!
Thanks Jan! Not sure if there’s a Trader Joes in New Mexico or Whole Foods but you should be able to get them in the more upscale markets. It’s a lovely simple salad. Heck, I could have eaten the burrata all on its own sans salad. 😀
Your pictures make me want to dive into my computer. Really great shots. I also love simple salads like this. Sometimes all you need is a little bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar on fresh greens. I’ve never had burrata before… I’ll keep an eye out for it next time i’m in a fromagerie.

Thanks Julie for your lovely comment! If you can get your hands on it –it really is a lovely mild cheese! I can eat the whole thing by itself! 😀
I totally love arugula !
Ice berg lettuce is fresh, but it has almost no taste.
I do too –love the peppery taste!
Just gorgeous, Anne! Ah, burrata … delicious! So wonderful on pizza too! =) Hugs!
Thanks Christina! 🙂 Burrata is so YUM! Thanks for commenting and hope you are doing well! Xox!
It looks amazing!!
Thank you!
I’ve never tried nor seen burrata. So jealous. Lol.
Burrata is a fresh mozzarella cheese with a creamy center. So if you like fresh mozzarella, you’ll love these.
I too would leave out the iceberg lettuce. See we both like the same kind of olive oil and balsamic dressing, so simple and delicious. Spring cannot come early enough so I get out to the garden and plant my greens.
Sometimes simplicity is the best way to go. Thanks for stopping by and comment Norma.
Looks delicious and the tomatoes look so good!! Refreshing 🙂
Thanks Judy! 🙂 I thought the burrata was the star here. I can eat just burrata without the greens and tomatoes but that wouldn’t be a fun post. 😀
