Kahlua Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Kahlua Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Today is National Kahlua Day.  And in honor of that, I made these Kahlua Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars.  If you are a Kahlua fan,  then you’ll love these! When I made them this morning, I couldn’t stop licking the batter. 😀  You can definitely taste the Kahlua flavor in this and the dark chocolate is nice complement to this cookie bar.  If you don’t have Kahlua or don’t want to add it to your batter, you can always add some coffee granules to this with some rum or vanilla extract.  But really, why bother? Go all out and add the Kahlua.  You’ll be glad you did.  Bake some today and enjoy them with family, friends, or neighbors.  They’ll thank you for it.

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease a 9″ x 13″-inch baking pan.

Using a stand mixer (or mix by hand) beat butter, sugar and sour cream until creamy.  Add eggs and Kahula until smooth.  Add baking soda, and salt.  Mix until blended.  Slowly add flour until just moistened.  Fold in chocolate chips.

Pour batter into the prepared pan and use a spatula to distribute the batter evenly.  Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the toothpick/cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean.  Let the bars cool completely before cutting into the pan.

  1. Love the idea of the dark muscovado sugar with the sour cream. Even though I don’t bake I can imagine certain flavours. Unfortunately not the Kahlua as I’ve never tried that before. if it’s rum based I probably wouldn’t like it. The coffee and vanilla I certainly would 🙂

  2. I haven’t had Kahlua since my college days. We tried to come up with as many ways to mix Kahlua as we could, most of the time with devastatingly bad results. If we only tried baking with it, we could have saved ourselves a lot of headaches! Man these look good!

  3. HeeeyyyAnne congratulation for your nomination of THE Awards!!!!the choco cake is subliem i smell from Here THE tast of flavors. Thanks for all THE information about National Kahlua Dark choco cake day!!!

  4. These sound like a great cookie bar, Anne. The combo of Kahlua and chocolate chips guarantee pretty much their irresistibility. Happy Kahlua Day to you and everyone in your life!

  5. I haven’t seen Kahlua for so long. The cookie bars look really good, it’s coffee time here and I could just do with one now – dark chocolate and coffee is one of the best flavour combinations!

  6. I hadn’t heard of Kahlua before and I’m now thinking I’ve been missing out somewhat… love love love coffee flavoured bakes… add chocolate to the mix and I’m sold. These look delicious Anne

  7. I love coffee and chocolate combinations! I sometimes sneak coffee into chocolate recipes because my husband doesn’t like coffee but he loves dark chocolate . . . go figure. Those kahlua dark chocolate bars look sooooo good!!

  8. I am lucky to work with Anne’s husband Chris and get the benefit of leftovers brought into our kitchen often. I just tried these and they were magnificent. So moist. Just a hint of kahlua flavor and the dark chocolate was perfect with it.

I will have to try to make these myself.

  9. Oh my, I love Kahlua! Somehow, I miss all these National Days, Nutella, Margarita, and now Kahlua? Good it’s never too late to make some treats. Can’t wait to try this out.

  10. These look delish !! Gonna post this on Pinterest!! I’m not sure where you live but I know it’s not in the States ’cause we don’t usually cook with muscovado sugar, although I used to use it when we lived in Malta.

  11. Ok, not only do those look awesome, but they also look way better than your average cookie AND way better than your average dessert bar… yummmm! I don’t actually keep Kahlua around, but I like the idea of using ground coffee instead. These photos just made me extremely hungry! 🙂
